Lucent Technologies announced that it won a contract with Dreamline--one of the leading broadband Internet service providers in Korea--to help build a nationwide optical network.
Dreamline will use Lucent's next-generation SONET systems to offer video distribution and cable TV services to its customers. Lucent's Metropolis(R) DMX Access Multiplexer and the Metropolis(R) DMXtend Access Multiplexer will help Dreamline reduce its capital expenditures and make better use of its existing equipment in its network.
The Metropolis(R) DMX and DMXtend both offer a unique "drop and continue" feature that allows Dreamline to send out one identical broadcast signal to all of its customers. By only broadcasting one signal for each channel rather than sending out separate signals to each customer, the "drop and continue" feature in the solution allows Dreamline to minimize both the amount of bandwidth it needs to send out broadcast signals and the amount of expense needed for equipment at each customer location.
