A wireless local network connected to the internet enables remote communication with one or more electronic installations such as probes, relay controls and electricity meters,
eDevice of France has developed a new rf2IP facility - a wireless local network connected to the internet. It enables remote communication with one or more electronic installations (probes, relay controls, electricity meters, etc), forming a wireless local network. The low price of eDevice solutions means that they can be used for communication with any type of electronic equipment.
The rf2IP network is particularly suitable for low-rate machine-to-machine (M2M) communication with a range of over 200 metres in an open area - power consumption is optimised for operation from batteries.
eDevice will be at the MD and M West 2005 (Electronics West 2005) trade show in Anaheim (California) from 10 to 12 January 2005.
The simplicity and user-friendliness of eDevice's rf2IP facility put the exploitation of the power of the internet within the scope of all product designers.
The bi-directional rf2IP network consists of an eDgate (internet gateway) and between one and sixteen eDnodes (radio nodes), and operates in the 868MHz/915MHz frequency band.
The rf2IP solution thus provides all the features needed to operate a local network.
eDevice's rf2IP can, for example, easily be used to set up a temperature probe for monitoring the cold chain in a warehouse.
Detectors for displaying door and relay opening/closing and for setting off alarms can also be connected to the same network.
All the data can be recorded and dispatched weekly to an FTP server.
When an anomaly is detected, an email is sent to a technician who can then inspect the state of the probes using his web browser.
Powerful, flexible and easy to use, rf2IP has the added advantage of requiring only a small investment.
An rf2IP POTS/PSTN evaluation kit - including an eDgate for the telephone system, 2 eDnodes and the eDevice SDK - is available at EUR 500.
The evaluation kit is also available for LAN/Ethernet or GPRS networks.
