Strategies conference probes packaging's future - Business News - Packaging Strategies Annual Conference and Networking Event, - Calendar

What's going on with mergers and acquisitions? What does it really mean to be a Wal-Mart supplier? How can what goes on in Washington, D.C., help you ... or hurt you?

These questions and many others will be addressed at the Packaging Strategies Annual Conference and Networking Event, to be held March 23-25 at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta, Ga.

This 17th annual conference will help packaging users pinpoint top-line tactics and strategies that will reinvigorate and drive their packaging operations' bottom-line performance.

The line-up of speakers at the Packaging Strategies Annual Conference includes top suppliers, consultants and observers of the packaging field and other important business sectors. The schedule includes

3 p.m.: Welcome and opening remarks by David Luttenberger, director of Packaging Strategies, 4followed by "Packaging by the Numbers." Ken Brooks, Ernst & Young's VP/North American packaging specialist; Jim Peters, principal, J. Peters & Assoc.; and Luttenberger will team up to dissect and tie consumer and retail trends to package technologies and the performance of best-in-class packaging companies.

"Harnessing the Aggression on the Targeted M&A Front," Thomas Blaige, CEO/managing partner, Thomas Blaige & Co. The mergers and acquisitions front is showing aggressive corporate and international commitments to specific lines of business. Tom Blaige shows how to pinpoint and control what that narrowing focus means to packaging and the top and bottom lines.

Marco Ghisolfi, CEO of M&G Finanziaria Industriale SpA, will talk on how his billion-dollar company is capitalizing on its blockbuster 2000 acquisition of Shell Chemical's PET resin business. Christel Bories, president/CEO of Alcan Packaging, will talk about the implications of the Pechiney acquisition and what packaging technologies and strategies it will put into play next. Lee Farlander, president of Vitro Packaging, will speak on competing against the Big Three U.S. glass packaging suppliers and how it managed 5% growth last year.
